Help with Clogged Gas Line ?
I just bought a 50cc Scooter from Evosales.com, Chinese made. I have had it for about a month, has less than 400 miles. Today, when I was at a stoplight, it was idleing and it just died. Then, it would not start. Tried over and over, finally started, but would not accelerate. Once I got it moving, got to about 30mph, but would die once I stopped, again hard to start back up.
I disconnected the gas line, and hardly any gas leaked out. Then blew into the line, and gas started to pour. Started it up, and ran for a few. 2 hours later, I went to start it, and it gave me the same problems. Would not stay running. My assumption is that there is something inside the gas tank, that is clogging the line, right at the tank. If that is the problem, how do I get it out of the tank ? Any suggestions ? Any other possible problems ? Thanks for any suggestions. |

Most 50cc scooters use a vacuum operated diaphragm to control the fuel flow to the carburetor. Follow the fuel line up to the fuel petcock. Usually, this has 2 lines coming from it. One is the fuel line you followed, and the other is a vacuum line. Disconnect the vacuum line from the carburetor (or inlet manifold, whichever) and suck on it. Fuel should flow freely from the fuel line at this point. You can use a vacuum tester if you have one (that's what I use).
You could also do a compression test on your scooter, and check the carburetor as well. Is your scooter a 2 stroke or 4 stroke? It is common to have many problems with Chinese scooters. I'm happy to help in any way I can though! ~Josh __________________ |
